Description

The Astronomical Observatory of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Białystok is located on the university campus at 1P Ciołkowskiego Street. The facility has Laboratory status and is situated on top of a 6-story building, taking the form of an original tower that perfectly fits into the UwB campus space. The Observatory is under the substantive supervision of the staff from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Białystok.

The main observational instrument of the Observatory is the ASA 600 telescope with a mirror diameter of 60 cm. The equipment is housed under an automated dome with a diameter of 5.5 m, manufactured by the Polish company ScopeDome. This is a professional and, so far, the only telescope from ASA Astrosysteme GmbH (Austria) installed in our country. The large, quartz main mirror of the ASA 600 makes it one of the larger Polish research and educational telescopes. The optical construction of the telescope is an excellent Ritchey-Chrétien (RC) system, with very good correction of optical aberrations. The world's largest research telescopes have optics based on the RC system - for example, the Hubble Telescope or the 10-m Keck Telescopes. The telescope's open-work tube is made of carbon fiber, which ensures its extraordinary rigidity, stability, and low mass.
